Allmusic Janus like nature (two faces) ....

Story in two parts:

1. I recently posted a strong complaint about a pop up ("AllMusic would like to send you notifications about albums ...") that does not go away when I log in (I subscribe). My intent was to complain to what I believed would be an unresponsive digital entity. Instead I received a fast reply from a person - one "Zac" the stalwart one-person support system here. It included an admission that the pop-up should go away when I log-in ie I am right. That is a remarkable admission from a corporate rep. And it is the first face of Allmusic - a user friendly resource for the arts-interested person, controlled by people who want to do the public right and are feeling people. Zac gets it.

2. Today before I logged in, I took a second to look at the ads - they are horrendous stuff. Front & center was one for a "build your abs" device "used by the military" showing a shirtless kid trying to become Arnold with some device slapped on his abdomen. This dumbass ad is predatory, sleazy, and just not cool. It represents the second face of Allmusic; an outfit packed full of (no doubt young) sales jerks with absolutely no ethics or discretion, who'd sell crack to the homeless to kiss their bosses ass, who have no idea what a hip music-culture site should present like. Hey have ads, I happily pay to sub and not see them, but how about a minimum of discretion in what you accept as ads?

Just thought I'd note that long-time users see this thing circling the drain, soon to be crushed by Amazon or Verizon into a piece of shit that no hip person wants a damned thing to do with, but that attracts investors because it preys on the public. Zac keep your eyes open for a career move.
