Website Runs Too Busy

This is a Mac Monterey and I had to close out of Firefox.  It looks like somebody designed this site to damage my browser and shut down my OS.  To get to this forum - and in the midst of researching an artist - despite not wanting to login, I had to reopen in Safari.  While in Firefox the popups in the lower left would not X out.  I do not know if you are running scripts; but my cursor turned into a fast-spinning pinwheel.  These are the only two browsers I have.  I switch between one or the other depending on which one shows the site better.  Chrome will never install on this computer.
